A person who represents one or more insurance companies and who usually sells all types of insurance on a commission basis is known as an agent. This person selling coverage to policy owners, is usually licensed by the State Insurance Department and appointed by the insurance company. The agent, by contract and by law, is endowed with selected powers and responsibilities.
